‘I See New Worshippers of Jesus in Dark Places’
The School of Missions
Is This You?
You have a passion to see people beyond the borders of the gospel hear it for the first time. You are moved by the thought of communities of forgotten peoples worshipping Jesus Christ. Perhaps your heart jumps at the thought of being part of a mission team pioneering in places where the name “Jesus” is not known? The School of Mission (SOM) is for you.
Rethink Your Missions Training
It is one thing to be equipped for pioneer cross-cultural missions work; it’s another to get the practical training and help you will need to go from here to there. It’s good to get started in cross-cultural missions; it’s better to be successful long-term. Regardless of your individual missions vision, there are four key competencies you will need to last and be effective: language learning, cross-cultural evangelism and disciple-making, team skills and survivability in foreign locations. Because most long-term workers are not sure of their long-term cross-cultural destination, it is also helpful to have people alongside you who can help process that decision with knowledge of your available options. Let us share with you how your missions vision can become a reality.
Gain Confidence
Going to unknown places and crossing into unfamiliar cultures can be challenging. The Lord of the Harvest wants you to do this with confidence. The SOM will be taught by experienced cross-cultural missionaries. You will practice what is taught in the classroom before you head into foreign lands. You won’t be asked to do anything in a foreign location that you haven’t first gained confidence with in Orlando. God will use this confidence to contribute to your longer-term pioneer success.
Good Choices Ahead
After you complete the 12-week SOM lecture phase, you will have the option to enter the field internship program. This 12-24 month internship focuses on the five SOM objectives: language learning, culture learning, good teamwork, thriving in foreign locations, and long-term missions placement. Beside visits from Orlando staff, you will have a field mentor to aid your growth. You will grow in your knowledge about yourself and God. Your firsthand knowledge of mission will grow greatly as well. At the close of your internship you will have considerable insight about your next step in missions ministry. The internship is designed to make you successful in long-term cross-cultural pioneer missions.
